These field trips provide opportunities for students to learn about municipal water and waste management systems.
Wastewater Treatment Plants
King County’s wastewater treatment plants handle wastewater from homes and businesses. The treatment plants are located in Seattle and Renton in King County, and in the Bothell/Woodinville area in Snohomish County. Each of the treatment plants borders a natural area or park, providing a connection to the natural environment.
Landfill and Transfer Stations
Where does garbage go? Guided tours of King County’s landfill and transfer stations show what happens to all the "stuff" thrown away by county residents.
Cedar River Watershed
Where does clean drinking water comes from? The Cedar River watershed, the source of Seattle’s drinking water, is managed by Seattle Public Utilities. The Cedar River Watershed Education Center provides tours and education programs to the public.
